Bold warning from Bernie: Coronation Street’s Tracy is dragged into Mal’s drama next week, as Bernie Winter-Alahan demands Tracy steer clear of the newcomer Mal Roper. When Roy Cropper casually vouches for Mal’s electrical skills, Bernie doesn’t hold back her concerns.
Spoilers for the coming episodes show Mal’s behavior around Bernie growing increasingly unsettling, leaving her terrified. After he confesses his feelings and she rejects him, Mal refuses to accept “no” and vows not to leave Bernie alone.
Bernie is already overwhelmed by Mal’s harassment, and the situation tightens further when she realizes he could linger in Weatherfield longer than expected.
The trouble starts to spill into Tracy’s world when she mentions to Roy that her dad Ken is in need of a reliable electrician, prompting Roy to praise Mal’s work on his flat.
“Our Corrie source says, ‘This is the last thing Bernie wants to hear. It was bad enough when Mal landed the temporary job with Roy, meaning he’d be a constant presence at the café for a while. Now, with Roy recommending Mal to local customers, there’s a real risk he could stay around and create more trouble.’”
Bernie wastes no time laying down the law: she warns Tracy to avoid Mal altogether. Roy is left puzzled by her reaction, and fans will wonder if Bernie will reveal the full reasons behind her fears.
Earlier this week, Corrie bosses teased that Mal will soon be at the center of a mystery when he is rushed to hospital after an assault from an unknown attacker, throwing suspicion onto Bernie—even though she’s confided in people including her husband Dev. This opens the door for other suspects to come into play.
With Bernie arrested, detective Kit Green faces a tough choice as he weighs how to protect his mother. Actress Jane Hazlegrove, who plays Bernie, notes that Mal’s assault doesn’t look good for Bernie given her prior threats toward him, and that telling Dev hasn’t resolved the issue.
