Riders Clinic July 2012 Feedback

Hi, I am Joyce, currently the owner of a BMW F800ST, and I have been riding for the past 7 years. When the BMW Motorcycle Club (Singapore) sent out invitations to register for a riding clinic at Pasir Gudang circuit I was not really keen to join. The idea of taking my bike on a racing circuit was more than a little scary because of the thought of being on the same circuit, with fast, experienced racers; and my perception of the pressure that this would place on me to ride beyond my capability – and crash!

After a lot of persuasion, I finally agreed to join the session and following the classroom theory session conducted by Martin, Peter and Francis, I was feeling a little less apprehensive – though still not completely confident that I was making the right choice.

Once at the Pasir Gudang Circuit, under the expert guidance, encouragement and feedback from the three ‘in-house’ Club trainer / mentors, the pressure that I had expected quickly melted away; and I was able to focus on practicing the throttle control and conerning techniques. With no feeling of intimidation from either my own motorcycle or from the fast riders who were also on the track.

The practice and feedback session lasted for two hours, which passed very quickly. During those two hours I learned a great deal about the handling and capability of my bike – something I had not learned during the past four years of ownership. To prove a point, the ‘chicken stripes’ on my rear tyre are now impressively tiny. In other words, I learned to lean the bike and take corneres in a smooth, efficient
and confident manner.

I am sure I can speak for all nine participants in the July 2012 session to give thanks and appreciation to Martin, Peter and Francis for giving up their time topass on some of their riding knowledge to us.

To anyone who has considered but is unsure of taking part in future clinics, I would say just do it. You will defintely gain something and will not regret it. I just wish that I had done this sooner!
